Congee is a very common dish in south-east asian cuisine. Usually it is cooked out of rice and water and different ingredents can be added. Usually congee is eaten for breakfast or when you are sick, but I also like to make congee when I have the right ingredients, such as fish, meat, shell and others. In this video I have used chicken and I hope you will like it!

Can you please tell me why you marinade your rice in salt? I don’t usually do this when making congee.

    • Maria says:

Hi Anna, by adding salt to the rice the rice will break easier and will taste better. Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year to you and your family ^^

I am so excited to find you on yourtube, some of the food you showed are what I grew up with. Thanks for sharing your experience. I have a question on making the congee – why do you have to stir it while cooking, also in the same direction. Isn’t it make the congee too watery?
Can I also put the chicken bone together with cooking the congee to make it more tasteful?
    Thanks.

    • Maria says:

Hi May, you are welcome. Stirring in same direction, it’s making the congee more smooth, not too watery and taste better. Yes, you can. Thank you for trying my recipe. please tell me how the recipes worked out. thank you ^^

I tried the congee last night. It turned out very well. It has the consistency that I liked. Next time, I would like to try using home made chicken broth instead of water. Do you think it will enhance the chicken taste?

Hi Maria, cannot find 珍珠米 here in Italy, can I use Arborio rice instead, it’s short and round also, normally when cook risotto we use this. Thanks.

Thank you for loving my video. Pearl rice is almost like shanghai rice, (fat, short and big). Sweet rice is glutinous rice also call sticky rice. Have a nice day ^^
