My oven recently broken down and inspired me to look for steamed cake recipes. I tried your “white sugar cake” yesterday and it was a triumph! I’m surprised that it’s such a simple snack to make yet rarely sold at even good yum cha restaurants in Australia.
The joy of opening that steamer lid and feeling the sticky sponginess of the cake slice brought a tear to my eye and a flood of childhood memories.
Thank you for sharing on your culinary knowledge and I’m going to try “ma lai gou” next time!
