Red bean, mung bean mini Zong / Zongzi, 紅豆或綠豆仁迷你鹹肉粽 Dragon Boat Festival

Zongzi are a traditional dish usually cooked during the chinese dragon boat festival. They are made of glutinous rice and other ingredients wrapped in laeves and cooked in hot water. Eventhough it sounds alot of work to make them it is fun and you should have a try. The taste rewards you for all the work.

Hi maria, I made zongzi from your recipe.
I boiled them for an hour and they’re really yummy.

Hi! It’s zong time again, and I have a question:

According to my grandma (she’s 80 years old!), there are some zongzi stuffed only with sweet bean paste and glutinous rice (probably soaked in some kind of sodium carbonate brine), and these zong are her favourites. Do you know how to make them?

We live in Southamerica, so my mom prepares almost every chinese dish that the family want to eat, because we don’t have the chance to just go out and buy. And though my mom knows how to prepare and wrap the regular cantonese zong, her yearly effort to make my grandma’s favourite zong gives us an edible (yet far from perfect) result.

    Nice blog!
