      Hi Novacing,

Sorry, I don’t know about the ang ciu. You can put any kinds of white wine or sherry instead of the shaoxing wine. Have a lovely day :)

      Hi Angie,

You are welcome. You can use any kinds of cooking wine, about the Japanese fish powder you can use plaice powder ( make in Hongkong 大地魚粉 ). Thank you for watching my videos. Have a nice day :)

Can I replace the shaoxin wine with whisky?

    • Maria says:

      Hi May,

I haven’t try with whisky before for this recipe but you use white wine instead of shaoxin wine. Thank you. Have a great day :)

    Hi Maria,

I followed your recipe and cooked the dish for my husband’s dinner this evening. The variations I made to the ingredients are whisky in place of shaoxin wine, I also added a tomato and lastly, I did not include the Japanese fish powder as I did not have any.

And my husband loved it. I don’t really know how to cook but your style of cooking reminds me so much of my mom’s homecook food. I will definitely comb through the rest of your recipes and see if there’s anything else that I can try. Thank you so much.

My soup didn’t turn milky white….any idea why please?

    • Maria says:

      Hi Helen,
I think the water you put in the soup wasn’t cooked hot water. If you like your fish soup become milky you need put in very hot boiling water. I hope it help.
Wishing you have a great day :)
